Before and After School Programs

McKinley After School Programs:

Interested in after school programs? McKinley has one or more that would be a great fit for you. Our clubs are FREE. All you need is an application from the teacher whose club you wish to attend and you are set!

CSI and EDAP are after school programs here at McKinley that gives students different options to make progress academically, physically and socially. We meet in the cafeteria at 3:05 after school and every child is offered a free meal. All students are expected to be there by 3:15 at the latest. The clubs are as follows:

Math Tutoring- Monday and Wednesday- 3:15-4:15 with Ms. Powell. Tutoring club will use a variety of approaches that will be used to aid in understanding of math concepts. Some of the approaches that will be used are: hands on activities (use of manipulatives), online lessons, games, and small group instruction.

Science Club-Tuesday and Thursday- 3:15-4:15 with Ms. Thoren and Ms. Buck. This club teaches students how to use the 3-D printers, build bridges and explore how a greenhouse works. Students will participate in science activities and labs and even complete a complex dissection.

Chess Club – Tuesday and Thursday – 3:15-4:15 with Mr. Nieto. Class offers a balance between formal lessons and structured play time where students are paired with opponents of similar strength. Instructors encourage application of the concepts taught in the lessons. Students have fun and gain new skills for the chess board and for life.

Spirit Club-Monday and Wednesday - 3:15-5:15 with Mrs. Heck. This club works on raising school spirit and supports the athletic teams at games. The program will help students with physical endurance, coordination, flexibility, leadership skills, team building and confidence.

GSA – Tuesday – 3:15-4:15 with Ms. Shearer. This is a club working on making a difference to understand the rights of all and to make sure that everyone is able to have a voice in decisions and support diversity. Working on positive supports through the school to support diversity.

Best Buddies – Monday – 3:15-4:15 with Ms. Shearer. This club provides one to one friendships in supporting the culture of being a middle school student. This includes working on monthly paperwork, fundraising, best buddies walk, best buddies prom, and reaching out to Del Norte High School.

Soccer- Monday through Thursday from 3:15-5:15 with Ms. Simons. Second semester (starting January 2020 students will develop individual skills, encourage team building, and teach the basic fundamentals of soccer. The students will build on team spirit and working as a whole.
